Picture Book Saturday: Someday by Alison McGhee

SomedayA mother's love leads to a mother's dream -- every mother's dream -- for her child to live life to its fullest.

A deceptively simple, powerful ode to the potential of love and the potential in life, Someday is the book you'll want to share with someone else...today. The perfect gift for Mother's Day, Graduation Day or Any Day - share a copy with every special person in your life.

I dare you to read this book with a dry eye. It was hard for me to do. I found myself choking up towards the end.

The words are simple, but they hit true. Alison McGhee has found a way to capture what lies in our hearts. Someday was both inspiring and touching. I read this aloud to my young son. As he sat looking at the pictures and listening to me words, I imagined us within the covers of the book. Instead of a little girl, I saw him. I became the mother and grandmother telling the story. It was so emotional.

Of course, my son didn't get it-- at first. Once I explained that it was a story about how much a mother loves her child (as I love him) he reached over and gave me the biggest hug. My heart melted even more and I did tear up.

Someday deserves a spot on the shelf next to On The Night You Were Born and Guess How Much I Love You.
